What can I Do?

Shabna's story

Young mum Shabna has just found out her boyfriend Marco cheated on her with a girl who may have HIV.

Red Cross in Ethiopia

In Ethiopia, over 40% of the population are under fifteen years old and many of them have lost their parents to AIDS or HIV related illnesses.

Ethiopian stories

More adults die from AIDS or HIV related illnesses than any other cause in Ethiopia. This leaves many young people coping with the illness or death of a loved one. The Red Cross trains young volunteers so they can educate others their own age about the causes and issues surrounding HIV.

Here are the inspiring stories of young people volunteering to help.

Girma (17)

"One thing I’d tell people around the world – they should know HIV has no cure."

Ramato (16)

“The young should know about HIV and AIDS so they can protect themselves from infection.”

Daktu (19)

"The number of people affected is huge and this is due to lack of information."

Kenza

Kena (15)

"I want to pass on a message about HIV – everyone must protect themselves and others."

Hamza

Hamza (20)

"If I teach one person about HIV, they can go back and teach their family."

Odar

Odar (15)

"My duty is to minimise the number of affected people and help finally destroy HIV/AIDS."
